The St. Edward Monarchs continued their winning ways with a convincing 12 - 3 victory over the St. Dominic Bayhawks last Saturday in the 8th grade division of the CYO of Nassau-Suffolk Travel Baseball League.

Once again solid pitching was the name of the game with Monarch starter Michael Reens fanning nine Bayhawks over four innings to earn his second win of the season, and Patrick Benjamin earning his first save hurling two strong innings, while going 3 for 5 at the plate and driving in three runs.

St. Edward shortstop Alex Regruto continued his stellar play at shortstop and reached base in all five plate appearances, including a long double and longer triple into the depths of Memorial Field in Oyster Bay. David Long continued his steady play behind the plate and added two key hits for the Monarchs, while infielders Chris Swann and Andrew Hovance provided steady defense.

Danny Nawrocki stunned the Bayhawks by stealing home in the fifth inning, and Jimmy Kursar's single in the sixth knocked in two runs and closed the door on St. Dominic. Paul Genovese, Frank Bossio and Chris Sulfaro all had solid games in the field and at the plate, each reaching base safely and scoring key runs.

St. Edward's next game is this Saturday at 3 p.m. at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park against St. Martin.
