Holidays, in their most spiritual moments, commemorate the wonder of ancient miracles. On Sunday, Dec. 13, on the open grounds of the Astoria Federal Savings Bank in Syosset, faithful Christians who gazed up at a light-speckled, 30-foot pine, and an illuminated manger may have pondered the birth of a king. Jews, looking in wonderment at an oversized menorah flanking the tree, may have marveled at how a simple source of light lasted eight days when it should have dwindled after one.

Lady Braves Win Port Washington, Syosset Tournaments
The Syosset High School Girls Varsity Basketball team has begun its season on quite an impressive note, winning the Syosset Tournament two weeks ago, and the Port Washington Tournament last weekend. Under the leadership of Head Coach Diane Alleva and Senior Co-Captains Rachel Friedman and Mary McCue, the Lady Braves have taken the lead in every game, and have not looked back.

Woodbury's Mike Anderson Repeats at St. Mary's Run
The St. Mary's Children and Family Services 5 Kilometer Run for children, held through the streets of Syosset, has become a very pleasant November tradition. Another tradition that is establishing itself as part of this event is Mike Anderson of Woodbury winning.
