Syosset High School science teacher Paul Englehart took 22nd place, overall, out of more than 4,000 finishers in the 1999 Canon Long Island Half Marathon, held on Sunday morning, May 2. Englehart finished the 13.1 mile course in one hour, 17 minutes, 26 seconds, and took home the third-place trophy in the 30-34 age group.
The Long Island Half Marathon is the third leg of the 21-race KeySpan Energy Grand Prix of Long Distance Running, which includes virtually every major race on Long Island, concluding with Rob's Run in Stillwell Woods Town Park in Syosset on Nov. 28. The Grand Prix is sponsored by KeySpan Energy and conducted under the auspices of Long Island Track & Field, Inc.
