At its April board of directors meeting, the Birchwood Civic Association was presented with positive reports from its Jericho and Syosset education committees.

The committee chairs, having attended school board and budget review meetings, and having reviewed the proposed school budgets for their respective districts, recommended strongly that the BCA support the proposed budgets. After a question-answer session, the board voted to take a position in favor of both school district budgets for the upcoming school year. The BCA encourages all residents to vote in favor of their school budgets on May 18.

The Birchwood Civic Association is pleased to take an active role in supporting both the Jericho and Syosset school districts. The BCA has provided representatives to citizens advisory committees from time to time, as well as to school board meetings. In addition, the BCA supports the PTAs at its local elementary schools, Robbins Lane and George Jackson, providing assistance as needed.

The strong support of education is pervasive throughout the organization, as is evidenced by the fact that BCA members are active in their schools' PTAs and district functions. Two of the BCA's dedicated members are serving currently on Jericho's Board of Education, Flora Greenberg and Robert Goldsmith. In fact, when Flora retires from the Jericho Board of Education at the end of this academic year, BCA Jericho Education Chairperson Barbara Krieger will take her seat in the uncontested election. Robert Goldsmith will continue in his position for another three years as well.
