The race for the play-offs took a dramatic turn this past week as four teams found themselves in a virtual dead heat for the play-off berths.
In a double-header caused by an earlier rain-out, Conti Auto Body defeated Barnett Associates twice to bring its record to 7-3 and a first-place tie with Center Hardware. Earlier in the week, Center Hardware defeated Conti 9-1 behind the strong pitching of Jason Marchwinski and Josh Vandenborg. Michael Briedbart and Jordan Albala had key RBI's for Center Hardware while Sean Rosen drove in Conti's only run with a solid single. Jim Murphy and Danny Grgas had other key hits for Conti.
The see-saw nature of the Division then saw Formed Plastic upset Center Hardware, 7-5, behind the strong pitching and hitting of Ryan Walsh. Jerry Bold led Formed Plastic's hitting attack with three hits and two RBI's while David Ugelow racked up three hits and key RBI's for Center Hardware.
Duo Restaurant raised its record to 6-4 with victories over Syosset Exxon and Formed Plastic. A 12-5 victory over Formed Plastic featured strong pitching by Andrew Navaretta and Zach Gerakakis plus timely hitting by Tom Degregoris. A 7-1 victory over Formed Plastic included Craig Mason's nearly flawless pitching and timely hitting by Eric Goldberger, Chris Nickel and Robbie Schisgall.
