Syosset resident Robis DeGirmenci was the overall winner in the Gary Farley Memorial 5 Kilometer Run, the 15th event in Long Island Track & Field's 20-race KeySpan Emergy Grand Prix of Road Races, held on October 9.
The 30-year-old speedster crossed the finish line in 16 minutes flat, seven seconds in front of runner-up Don Di Donato of Hicksville. DeGirmenci is a member of the Greater Long Isalnd Running Club and competes for GLIRC's Men's Racing Team.
The run was hosted by the Nassau Police Running Club in memory of Police Officer Gary Farley, with all proceeds donated to the special scholarship fund that has been established in Gary's memory. Hicksville-based KeySpan Energy contributed $1,000 to the Gary Farley Memorial Fund, as it does for each of the races in the Grand Prix.
"We continue to be thrilled by the generosity of KeySpan," observed Long Island Track & Field Secretary Jane McGraw. "They are a corporation with wonderful community spirit and we are truly thankful for Long Island athletics. Our congratulations to Robis and all the other runners."
