Teams of student athletes from member schools of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association are honored each year for achieving outstanding academic results during their sports season. Two Jericho spring-season teams recently received recognition on a state-wide level for excellence in scholastic performance.
The Boys Varsity golf team, coached by Bill Wuest, had a combined team grade-point average of 95.775 to earn them the second-place spot in this annual state competition. Team members include Jason Algaze, Andrew Goldfarb, Sam Janvey, Adam Kaufman, James Kim, Chris Lee, Eric Newman, Josh Levine, Brett Pearlman, Ken Rosen, Justin Ross, Adam Sacks, Josh Shapiro, Jung Song, Brad Toline and Kevin Wong.
The Girls Varsity softball team, coached by James Whelan, earned a third-place award with a team grade-point average of 94.998. Team members include Rikki Arden, Sam Brody, Lindsey Fischer, Katie Hickey, Sarah Machover, Janine Meliambro, Kristen Meliambro, Sonja Pollack, Lauren Shannon, Maggie Sollicito, Hali Tilzer and Michelle Tolkin. Jericho students take pride in their achievements, on and off the playing fields.
