The Yankees evened their record to 1-1 with a well-played 12 to 9 victory over the Angels at Jericho High School on Saturday, April 8. The Yankees were led by Rachel Klinghoffer who pitched a strong game, striking out seven while only giving up one walk. Klinghoffer also keyed the offense, going 3 for 4 with 3 doubles in the leadoff spot. Felicia Machover, batting clean-up, went 3 for 3 with a walk and 4 RBI's. Melanie Friedlander got her first hit of the year, a triple to right center that drove in a run.

In addition to great hitting the Yankees were tough on defense making the big plays when they had to. Nicole Genchur anchored the infield at first base making seven put outs. Allison Stogel was superb at shortstop getting three assists. Later Stogel made the play of the game when she moved to center field. She robbed Brittany Richter of a sure home run by snagging a wicked line drive in the fourth inning.

The Angels were led by Alysa Hockhelder who went 3 for 4 with two doubles and played a superb shortstop. In the fifth innng Richter finally got her due when she lashed anouther rocket that went for a round tripper.
