The Morrisons Pastry Angels defeated the Ben's Kosher Deli Diamond Backs by the score of 11-4 on a beautiful night under the lights at Syosset Woodbury Park on May 5. Alex Siegel pitched 4 outstanding innings for the Angels for his third victory and helped raise his team's record to 3-2. The Angels broke out on top for 5 big runs in the opening frame as John Goldsmith, Ryan Saunders and Josh Morey all reached base on walks. Brian Harris then knocked in 2 runs with a solid single. After Siegel coaxed another free pass, David Fusco and Adam Kronengold rapped run scoring doubles to give their team a commanding lead.

Siegel was untouchable for the first 3 innings as he recorded 8 strikeouts and did not give up a single hit. Ethan Hoch pitched well for the Diamond Backs but the Angels scratched out 2 more runs as William Hahn and Ben Kriegel scored to make the score 7-0. Matt Checkler came in to relive Hock in the second inning and was very effective limiting the Angels to only 4 runs on as many hits the rest of the way. Checkler was very impressive notching 9 strikeouts in his 4 2/3 innings of work.

The Diamond Backs finally broke through for 3 big runs in the bottom of the 4th as Checkler led off with an infield single and Jason First ripped a long triple to right center. David Spodek then singled in a run and Ryan Atlas drew a walk, only the second issued by Siegel. Ethan Hoch hit an RBI single and Siegel then retired the side on his 10th strikeout in only 4 innings of work.

Lucas Paley came on to pitch the last 2 innings for the Angels and was terrific in earning his first save of the season. He allowed walks to Jordan Hock and Michael Klimchak and a run scoring single by Jordan Hoch in the Diamond Backs' final at bat. Adam Rotter had a strong game for the Diamond Back and hit the ball hard in his plate appearance. Justine Berger (2 walks), Max Gladstone (1 walk) and Brett Novick all played well for the Angels.

The Morrisons Pastry Angels withstood a furious last inning comeback to defeat the Harry Katz Carpet One Twins by the score of 10-9 on Monday evening, May 8. Maxx Wattenberg pitched into the 4th inning and secured his first win of the season while leading the Angels to a 4-3 record. Ben Kapner pitched well for the Twins and consistently found the strike zone to keep his team close.

The Angels got off the blocks quickly in the top of the first with consecutive singles by Wattenberg, Ryan Saunders and Brian Harris. Aggressive running on the bases sparked a 4 run rally capped off by David Fusco's walk and 3 stolen bases. Wattenberg was sharp in the bottom of the first giving up only a single to Jonathan Ross and escaping without further damage.

The Angels poured it on in the top of the second and scored 5 more runs to seemingly put the game away. Brett Novick and Max Gladstone drew walks to start the inning. Wattenberg reached base on catcher's interference and Saunders and Harris both came through with their second hits of the contest. Josh Morey knocked in the final run with a sharp grounder to second. The Twins fought back with 2 runs in the bottom of the second on two monster triples by Spencer Greenberg and Danny Markowitz sandwiched around Josh Garay's walk. The Angels ended the threat with a beautiful 1-3-2 double play started by Wattenberg and ending with 1st baseman Morey throwing a strike to catcher Harris who slapped the tag on the runner trying to score from 3rd.

The Angels added a run in the top of the third on Lucas Paley's free pass and 3 stolen bases. Wattenberg had a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the third and the game moved to the 4th inning as darkness was starting to creep in. The Angels went down quickly in the top of the 4th leading 10-2 and then the fun began. The Twins had their biggest inning of the season as they batted around the order. Brad Gelbwaks started things off with a sharp single. Consecutive walks were issued to Jeremy Koenig, Josh Lampert, and Ross. After Wattenberg posted his 6th strikeout for the first out, Greenberg had his second big hit of the game to drive in 2 runs and make the score 10-5. Garay walked with the bases full and Markowitz had another run scoring single. Brian Harris came on in relief and Josh Besserman hit a shot over third base to score 2 more runs to bring the Twins within one run. After a strikeout, Harrison Katz and Jason Brenner drew walks to load the bases. Harris bore down and got the final out on a clutch strikeout and record his first save of the year.

The umpire decided to let the game continue into the 5th inning. Harris and Morey drew walks and Fusco followed with an RBI double. After Justin Berger walked to load the bases, Adam Kronengold singled to right to score another run. The game was called and the Angels hung on for the big win although the Twins should be credited for one of the best comebacks of the season.
