Syosset High School's top three graduates have been selected for the class of 2000. Valedictorian Adam Taubman and Salutatorian Dina Ismail will attend Yale University in September and Salutatorian Michael Grabarz will attend Duke University. They bring with them a long list of honors and achievements.

Senior class valedictorian, Adam Taubman, has excelled in all academic areas, and his awards in science, math, engineering and Model United Nations are numerous and impressive. In addition to being a National Merit Scholarship winner, a Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship recipient and receiving the 2000 Scholarship for Academic Excellence, he was the captain of the Quiz Bowl team and served as president of Interact, president of Mathletes and vice president of Model United Nations. His community service leadership in Interact has involved him in such activities as the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Career Day, International Weekend, Salvation Army Bell Ringing and the Random Acts of Kindness Program.

Salutatorian Michael Grabarz has been involved in the advanced research program and was named Outstanding Delegate at the Model United Nations in Chicago. He is managing editor of Ken, Syosset's literary magazine, and is president of the Human Awareness Club. Grabarz is very interested in computers and information technology and has worked as a computer programmer and a free-lance computer consultant. Grabarz was named a National Merit Commended Scholar as well as a recipient of the 2000 Scholarship for academic excellence.

Salutatorian Dina Ismail is looking forward to studying biology at Yale University this September. She has distinguished herself in many areas at Syosset High School, receiving many honors, including a number of science awards, such as the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award and the St. John's Women in Science Awards in both chemistry and mathematics. She was also a national Merit Commended Scholar and a 2000 scholarship for Academic Excellence recipient.

Her extracurricular activities reflect a wide range of interest and talents. She was the station manager for the school's radio station, WKWZ, co-president of the French Club, treasurer of the French National Honor Society, and president of the National Honor Society. This past year, she was captain of the varsity swim team. Very involved in community affairs, Ismail was co-president of the teen board of the American Lung Association.

All three students look forward to pursuing their dreams and attending college, but leave Syosset with fond memories and an excellent education.
