A Legacy Leaves Syosset
To those who know little of Syosset, the little store tucked into the corner of the newly-renovated Rite Aid Shopping Center on Jackson Avenue may be just another local shop buckling under the pressure of soaring rents and stiff competition from major chain stores. But to those who were born and raised in Syosset, Scott's Variety is another special piece of life fading into big business. After 48 years of dedicated service, Scott's Variety Store is closing its doors on July 31 and ending an era in Syosset.

Lightpath Long Island Classic Enters Top 10
The Lightpath Long Island Classic, the only Senior PGA Tour golf tournament in New York and one of Long Island's most prominent midsummer sporting events, has increased its total purse for this year's tournament to $1,500,000, placing it within the ranks of the top 10 Senior PGA Tour's nationwide golf events. Holding court once again at the 6,842-yard par-72 Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, the Lightpath Long Island Classic, now in its 14th year, will take place July 24-30.

Syosset Youth Football
It is that time again football fans. The new board of directors of Syosset Youth Football invite the community to join another year of Braves Football. Syosset Youth Football is a member of the Nassau/Suffolk Football League. The league is for children between the ages of five and 14. The teams are assembled based on age and weight. The season runs from Sept. 10 through the end of November. Football practices begin in August. The registration fees are $125 for one child, $225 for two children and $275 for three or more children. You do not need to be a resident of Syosset to join a team.
