Rick Frishman, a resident of Jericho, has recently co-authored a book entitled Guerrilla Marketing for Writers that will be available in mid-December.

Frishman lives in Jericho with his wife Robbi and his children, who attend school in Syosset. He has worked in the publicity industry for almost 25 years and took the knowledge he gained through his years of experience and wrote a book with co-authors Jay Conrad Levinson and Michael Larsen. Guerrilla Marketing for Writers, from Writer's Digest Books, shows writers 100 ways to market their books, before and after they are published.

Chapters include Why You Have to Be a Guerrilla Marketer, The Most Powerful Weapons in Your Arsenal, More Powerful Publicity Weapons, Weapons That Use Technology to Help You and Weapons That Prove You're a Pro.

According to Frishman, Guerrilla Marketing for Writers is not only for writers, although the core target audience is someone who is writing a book or will have a book self-published or have a book published soon. This book is appropriate for anyone who owns a small business or offers a service. "This is really a book on publicity, and the strategies and weapons that we list are right for anybody who has a business and who wants to learn how to use publicity themselves," said Frishman.

"I council authors all day and I teach them how to promote their books," said Frishman. "Many of them do not have the budget to hire a Public Relations firm. There is a need to teach people how to do it easily and cheaply."

The three co-authors, who worked on Guerrilla Marketing for Writers for approximately two years, all bring their own expertise to this book. "Jay Conrad Levinson is the guru of Guerrilla Marketing," said Frishman. "He has sold over a million Guerrilla Marketing books and [Michael] Larsen is his literary agent. The publisher thought that having the Guerrilla Marketing guru, and literary agent and a publicity agent would be a great threesome."

The three wanted to include their picture in the book under a caption that read "The Three Marketeers", but they were overruled.

Frishman explains that this is an ever-changing market and there will most likely be updates to this book made every three years. Many resources, including web sites, are given out in the book, and will need to be updated. "This industry, and public relations in particular, has reinvented itself and changed so much every few years," said Frishman. "So much is done electronically now and with the Internet, a lot has changed.

This is Frishman's first book, but definitely will not be the last. He is actually now putting the final touches on his next publication and there is a possibility that this next book will be an e-book, which will allow readers to download the pages and print them if they wish. This will make updates a lot easier and will decrease the price of the book.

Guerrilla Marketing for Writers will not be in the stores until the end of this year, but it can be pre-ordered on amazon.com starting in December. Frishman will hold a book signing in Jan. 2001 at Borders Books and Music in Syosset
