In an exciting nail-biter, the 8-and9-year old Sonics (Marcum & Kliegman) played a gutsy game at the Jackson basketball gym on Sunday afternoon. Playing the Celtic team was a challenge, but the Sonics, with only six third graders suited up, toughed it out to the end.

The Sonics lost by two points in overtime, but the team gained a great deal of attention from parents and onlookers with their improved effort and skill level.

Brian Watt utilized his talent cruising to the basket and showing control and poise. He was the team leader in points scored. Jake Schwarzbaum played an all around strong game making key baskets while playing a solid defense. Ryan Schwartz, gaining confidence as the game went on, contributed with a strong overtime period. Seth Mishan played tough defense and grabbed many rebounds and also scored a basket. Andrew Becker, with his high level of concentration and effort, brought the ball up many times and gave an overall solid effort at both ends. Mark Roth rounded out the team with his scoring and rebounding contributions. The entire game was close with the Sonics holding onto a 4-point lead going into the last period. The Celtics hung tough and prevailed in overtime. The outcome could have gone either way, but despite the loss, the Sonics played well together and showed great improvement in what should be an exciting and rewarding season.
