Although he didn't finish among the top three to win an award, DeGirmenci held the lead for the first-quarter mile of the race and he was pleased with his performance and was just happy to be part of the prestigious event. A large contingent of Long Islanders made the trip into Madison Square Garden just for the purpose of seeing DeGirmenci and the other two Long Islanders compete.
"We are thrilled that three exceptional athletes like Mike, Don and Robis represented Long Island as this year's Millrose Games," said Long Island Track and Field President Susan Polansky. "Our congratulations to all three, and we look forward to even bigger and better things from them in the future!"
