The Jericho Fire District recently announced the retirement of District Clerk Myra Kennedy after 42 years of dedicated service to the community.

Re-opening Landia Station May Ease Traffic Jam
In an attempt to alleviate the parking problem in downtown Hicksville and other surrounding areas, particularly near local train stations, Oyster Bay Town Clerk Martha Offerman suggests re-opening the Landia train station on a capped landfill between Robins Lane and South Oyster Bay Road, right off the north service road of the Long Island Expressway. The station, which has been closed for more than 20 years, hasn't had a train pass through since 1973. Another company currently exists on the property.

In a battle for first place, and as both teams are getting ready for the playoffs, the Sport Section Miracle defeated Salzman-Ashley Liberty 33-22 in a hard fought and exciting game on Feb. 10 at Cantiague gym.

Victory in Defeat
Like an Ali-Frazier championship fight the Sonics (Marcus-Kleigman) and Jazz battled back and forth in a thoroughly exciting and very exhausting basketball game. Attempting to avenge a wipeout earlier in the season against the Jazz, the third graders learned the power that teamwork and determination can provide. The parents and children got a real treat as the team finally broke out and gelled in what was a thoroughly satisfying game for those playing and watching. Despite only having five players available to play, the undermanned Sonics gave everything they had every minute of the game. Facing a well-coached and talented Jazz team that made clutch shot after clutch shot, the Sonics fighting fatigue and occasional discouragement did not let that affect their effort and performance.
