The Jericho 3rd and 4th grade travel lacrosse team has opened its season with a very encouraging start. Although the first three games were losses, the team shows great promise to be highly competitive through the remaining five games.
Game one was played at Deer Park on April 1 on a cold wet Sunday morning. Jericho fell behind early by three goals, but battled back to a closing 9-6 final, thanks to the great play of Scott Weiss who scored four goals.
Game two was played at the Jericho High School on April 8 on another cold and wet day. This time Jericho scored the opening goal on a shot by Jimmy Corcoran who added two more goals for the day. His teammate Jake Weithorn also added three goals but they could not hang on to the lead against a tough Glen Cove team who won the game 9-6.
Finally the sun showed up for game three which was played this past Sunday, April 22 at Plainview. Robert Nuzzolese had an outstanding game with six goals, followed by Jesse Chazen with two goals and an assist. Jason Leeds was superb defending the goal for Jericho and saving many difficult shots from becoming goals. Plainview was able to squeak by to win the game by a 10 - 8 final score.
The team plays its next game this Sunday, April 29 at home on the Jericho High School field at noon against West Babylon. Please come out and cheer for the team.
