Coming up against a top-rated West Babylon team, Jericho knew that this game could only be won with some outstanding play. Hopes of taking an early lead were immediately crushed as West Babylon took an early lead in the first few minutes with a quick score. It was not long after, that West Babylon would once again score taking a 2-0 lead. While the defense, led by Alex Czik, Jeremy Koenig, Harry Anscher and Wyatt Tichner did a good job shutting down the attack, the West Babylon midfielders, with a significant size advantage over the Jericho team, seemed to control play throughout most of the period. Jericho midfielder, Zach Zetlin managed to score, but in the second period West Babylon would snap back with two additional goals to end the half with a 4-1 lead. In the third quarter, the aggressive play by West Babylon kept them on the offense. This time it would be their attack that would score in the third period, increasing their lead to 5-1.
Determined to win, coach Dan Feinstein gave a speech to the Jericho squad, which may go down in Jericho history as being the "spark that ignited the fire" within the Jericho team. "You can beat these guys," Dan said. "They may be bigger, but you are a better team with better skills. So go out there and score." And score is what the Jericho squad did. Within two minutes into the quarter, attackman Brett Longo taking a feed from fellow attackman Harry Anscher would score. With six minutes left, Zack Zetlin would up with another goal and two minutes later Brett Longo would once again score, bringing the score to 5-4 with four minutes left to play. With West Babylon taking a time out to try to regain their composure, Jericho regained a surge of confidence, which would only make them play even harder in the waning minutes. Within 30 seconds, it would be Max Zetlin, now playing attack, who would tie the game at 5-5 and with only two minutes left to play, Zack Zetlin broke the tie, giving Jericho a 6-5 lead. Then, Jericho's momentum would come to an abrupt halt as a penalty left the West Babylon team with a man up advantage for the remaining 1 1/2 minutes to play. But on this day, it would be Jericho's destiny to win. West Babylon managed to take a shot hitting the post, but that would be their last chance. Jericho gained possession of the ball ending the game with one of the best comebacks ever played. Throughout the entire game, the midfielders, Russell Taff, with one assist and four ground balls, Max Landow with three groundballs, Kyle Vieira with five groundballs, Sebastian Slornkowski, Emil Koniecko, Jeremy Cohen, Michael Ernstein and Max and Zach Zetlin played a superb game against a physically challenging team. The attack, consisting of Corey Saft, Brett Longo, Jake Feinstein, Matt Sherman, Harry Anscher and Danny Kanzer pulled it together, especially for the last period. And goalie Brian Lobman came through with the big saves, keeping the score close enough to give the Jericho team the opportunity they needed to fight back. Congratulations on a big win!
