With timely hitting, CPASRUS.com rocked The Rocking Superstars in a hard-fought 14-10 win on June 5.
The CPAs had their "hitting shoes on" over four innings of steady scoring. Leading the charge were Lily Mummert, who went two for three with a homer and three RBIs, and Zoe Saunders, who had three hits, three runs and two RBIs. Zoe boosted her team-leading production total to an incredible 27 RBIs in just eight games.
Also punching out three hits were Rose Bloomberg and Rachel Perl. Jessica Caplan continued her power hitting with two hard shots to the outfield that yielded three RBIs. Dani Peters played a solid pitcher's helper and had two hits, and Nicole Morro offered strong defense and displayed an awesome arm on throws from centerfield.
Rachel Perl came alive at the plate, pounding out three hits, driving in two runs and scoring twice. Melissa Kaufman stroked a pair of hits and drove in a run. Stacie Perl made the "catch of the day" on a high pop fly and was immediately mobbed by her sister and teammates. Danielle Kass and Danielle Greenberg also contributed at the plate and in the field.
The Superstars, who were down four players, played valiantly nonetheless. Providing power at the plate were Alyson Zuckerman, Dani Strum, Lauren Albert, Courtney Keats and Nicole Imundo. Both Lauren Albert and Dani Strum were especially sharp on defense, catching fly balls and making heads-up plays on force outs.
The CPAs closed out their season with a 7-2 record and move on to the playoffs.
Another makeup game for a rained-out game. The Bombers took the early lead and held it through the third inning with the excellent fielding of Cathy Tang on third base and Hennah Lafferty at first. The Mets finally took the lead in the fourth inning and kept it until the end. Star players were Kristin Carton with her usual excellent fielding at first base; she also went 4 for 5 with five RBIs. Lauren Quinn went 3 for 5 and had three RBIs as well as Jennifer Halpern. The final score was Mets 23 - Bombers 11 in which the Mets clinched first place with an impressive record of eight wins and two losses. They are now the top seed in the playoffs with a first round buy.
After suffering a couple of losses the Bombers bounced back and won their last two games in a row. On May 30 the Bombers defeated the Rocking Super Stars by a score of 17-4, and on the following day defeated Plaza Power Hitters by a score of 27-9. In both games all the players on the Bombers contributed at least two to three hits a piece. Once again Cathy Tang was superb on offense as she stroked a combined seven hits between the two games, including four doubles and a home run. Outstanding defense was played by Cathy Tang, Nicole Rooney and Hannah Lafferty who has been flawless at first base. Our outfield consisting of Allison Kamin, Catherine Sanderson, Rachel Franklin, Heidi Smolevitz, Rachel Ajzenman and Laura Cusenza have managed to keep the ball in front of them, not allowing extra bases. Speedy Jenna Tacher and Hannah Lafferty have been consistent hitters in our lead-off spot to allow Lisa Cozza, Cathy and Nikki Tang and Nicole Rooney to bring them around the bases. Newcomer, Cristelle Rabbon, the Bombers' catcher has consistently hit in every game she has played.
This game was a make-up for a previously rained-out game. Mets jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning by scoring seven runs and never looked back. Outstanding players for the game were Ariel Bick who made three outstanding fielding plays and Lisa Cohn who was 4 for 4, hitting and drove in four of the 10 runs scored by Access. The stars for the Mets were SamiRose Esposito who was 4 for 5 with three runs scored; she also was outstanding playing catcher. Liza Roth and Jennifer Spungin who both went 5 for 5 and drove in five runs each. Melanie Woerner who with her lightening speed and heads-up base running scored five runs. Final score: Mets 33 Access Staffing 10.
Sluggers.com rallied from a 9-1 deficit to win their first playoff game. Jamie Cohen and Alex Aaron both reached base three times. Emily Gelfand broke out of her slump with a homer. The big hit, however, was Courtney Baymack's bases clearing triple in the nine run fourth inning.
JMB was led by the pitching and fielding of Samantha Schwartz. Kristen Schultz reached base four times. Dana Goldstein and Carly Goldstein both reached base three times.
