Chris J. Coschignano, a resident of Syosset, officially launched his campaign for Town of Oyster Bay councilman. Coschignano was recently nominated by the Nassau County Republican Committee to run for a seat on the Town of Oyster Bay Board in November's election.
Coschignano is an attorney, who operates his practice out of Syosset, and also active in a number of fraternal and community organizations. A graduate of St. John's University, Coschignano received his law degree from Touro College School of Law in 1990. He currently serves as counsel to the Board of Zoning Appeals for the Town of Oyster Bay, a post he has held since 1995. Coschignano is also counsel on the litigation panel of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and is a member of several legal organizations.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to run for the position of councilman and feel confident I am well-prepared to represent the interests of the residents of the Town of Oyster Bay," said Coschignano.
Since receiving the nomination, Coschignano has spent considerable time getting out to meet the people, going door-to-door, greeting commuters at train stations and attending civic and community gatherings.
"I have always been someone who wants to share ideas and the best way to do that is to have an open dialogue with as many individuals as possible," said Coschignano. "It's just as important for me to listen to the concerns of the community as it is for me to talk about my vision for the future of the Town of Oyster Bay."
Coschignano cited keeping taxes in check, sensible municipal planning while protecting the environment and maintaining the overall quality of life among the key issues on his agenda.
Coschignano's extensive community involvement includes active memberships in the Knights of Columbus, the Sons of Italy, the Syosset Chamber of Commerce, Residents for a More Beautiful Syosset and the North Syosset Civic Association. He attends religious services regularly at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church.
"Over the next few years, the Town of Oyster Bay will be challenged to make some important decisions that will have a major impact on our future," said Coschignano. "I've lived here my entire life and have paid close attention to what has been going on around me. If chosen by the people to serve as town councilman, I will utilize my personal and professional experience to do what is in the best interest of the community."
