The Braves entered their game against the top seeded high school team with a 4-5 record. Elmont was undefeated going into Wednesday night's game, and were planning to continue their dominance if it weren't for Stu Coleman's three pointer from the corner with 22 seconds remaining. The Braves took a 44-42 lead with Coleman's three pointer and ended Elmont's winning streak at eight.
The Elmont Spartans displayed their power during their warm-ups when three of their players electrified the crowd with slam dunks. The Braves were able to ignore their opponent's season record and warm-ups and entered the game with confidence. Both teams played tremendous defense during the first half, with Syosset leading 18-17.
In the third quarter both the game's pace quickened when both teams began making shots. Coleman accounted for twelve of his 20 points in the third quarter. Jamar Daniel's ten points kept Elmont in the lead going into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter was the most exhilarating quarter the Braves have played all season with the lead changing four times. With a minute left in regulation Coleman stole the ball from Elmont and completed a three point play after he was fouled, giving the Braves a two point lead. Elmont quickly regained the lead with a three pointer which seemed to be the game winning basket, but Coleman and the Braves showed their determination when Coleman clinched Syosset's victory with a game winning three pointer.
The Braves have played strong the entire year and this victory may be a turning point for Syosset going into the final games of the season, and then carry on to next year. Congratulations Braves for the well-fought victory!
