The Syosset Braves entered their final game of the season with everything on the line. If they won, they would make the playoffs for the second year in a row; if they lost, they wouldn't. The game's opening ceremony for the departing players (Stu Coleman, Brian Liebman, Chris Hassel, Ross Kandell, John Park, and Captain Jason Parasco) intensified the "sellout" crowd as "Senior Night" began for the Braves.
The Plainview Hawks entered the game with a dominant 9-1 record in league play and were determined to finish the season with double-digit victories for the playoffs.
Both Syosset and Plainview started the game with incredible defense not allowing the opposition to score a total of twenty points in the first half. In the second half, the Braves were held scoreless for the first five minutes of the third quarter, and Plainview forced eleven turnovers against the Braves offense. Syosset was able to score ten points in the quarter, but Plainview entered the fourth quarter with a four point lead.
The fourth quarter began with Syosset down four points, but Stu Coleman's offensive and defensive leadership helped the Braves take a three point lead when Coleman hit a three-pointer with 5:30 minutes left in regulation. Plainview recovered quickly when their leading scorer, Danny Kramer, hit a three point shot to tie the game. Justin Brown's eleven rebounds, and Plainview's defense didn't allow Syosset to regain the lead for the remainder of the game.
The Braves ended their season with a 6-6 record and did not make the playoffs. Sorry Braves for not advancing to the playoffs, but thanks for the exciting season!
