Jonathon Roth, who will be entering his sophomore year at Syosset High School in the fall, has been performing at many events throughout Nassau County over the past few months. Since the age of 3, Roth has been singing, acting and participating in theater and recently he has been able to show others the impressive talents that he possesses.

Last year, as a freshman, Roth performed at the Inaugural Ceremony of Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi, which was held at the Tilles Center. Marilyn Gottlieb, chair of the Inaugural Committee and past president of the Syosset School board, approached Dr. Carole Hankin, superintendent of the Syosset School District, and asked if someone could sing a patriotic song at the Inauguration. Chorus Instructor Kristen Howell chose Jonathan Roth. He performed The House I live In, which was written in 1941 by Earl Robinson and a personal favorite of Suozzi's.

"As a ninth grader they don't ever pick us, but the music teacher was set and she picked me," said Roth. "That was the starting point for me, which was a couple of months ago. From there it was the Museum Ball and some other shows that I was in for the library."

At the recent Nassau County Museum of Art fundraising ball, Roth performed The House I Live in by Earl Robinson and Lewis Allen, A Patriotic Medley arrangement by Kristen Howell and Can you Feel the Love Tonight with music by Sir Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice.

Roth is also involved in Syosset School District's Summer Stock and has performed at community theaters including shows at the Cultural Arts Playhouse and Broadhollow Theater.

Roth hopes to pursue his interests in singing, theater and acting in his future. "I just got headshots done and I am starting to send them out," he said. "I am looking into smaller things and I hope that leads into bigger things."
