Property Reassessments to Be Mailed to County Residents by September 1
Under the new county property assessment plan, residents will likely be seeing either an increase or decrease in the county portion of their tax bill, which amounts to about 20% of a total tax bill. The reassessment will correct the valuation of properties in the county, by bringing them up to date, for tax purposes.

AHRC Adds New Clinic
On Thursday July 11, Nassau Association for the Help of Retarded Children (AHRC) in Brookville broke ground on a new building named The Pearl And Jack Ain Advantage Care Diagnostic and Treatment Center. The AHRC, a not-for-profit organization, provides programs and services for children and adults with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities.

Apple and Eve Tennis Classic Scheduled
Low cost adult group tennis lessons (open to children 12 and up, as well as adults of all ages) will be offered Monday, July 15th - Friday, July 19, during the inaugural Apple & Eve Tennis Classic, presented by Pathmark, that will take place July 14-21, at Syosset-Woodbury Park, in Woodbury. The Apple & Eve Tennis Classic is a USTA sanctioned women's professional challenger event, with a $50,000 purse. Women professionals from nations around the world will compete for prize money and for "points" that will allow them to gain entry into the US Open Tournament in Flushing Meadow, Queens, at the end of the August.

Basketball Tournament Scheduled in Jericho to Help Children with Brain Tumors
On July 28 and August 4, Josh Cohen, a resident of Jericho, will host his fifth Annual Long Island 3-on-3 Neighborhood Basketball Classic at the Merry Lane basketball courts in Jericho. On July 28, players ages 15-25 will compete from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. On August 4, players 25 and older will compete from 8 a.m. - noon. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation, a national organization that funds research and provides support for children with brain and spinal cord tumors and their families.
