Low cost adult group tennis lessons (open to children 12 and up, as well as adults of all ages) will be offered Monday, July 15th - Friday, July 19, during the inaugural Apple & Eve Tennis Classic, presented by Pathmark, that will take place July 14-21, at Syosset-Woodbury Park, in Woodbury. The Apple & Eve Tennis Classic is a USTA sanctioned women's professional challenger event, with a $50,000 purse. Women professionals from nations around the world will compete for prize money and for "points" that will allow them to gain entry into the US Open Tournament in Flushing Meadow, Queens, at the end of the August.

Now is the time for everyone who has gotten a bit rusty with their tennis swing or those who have always wanted to learn how to play, to sign up for these low cost USA Tennis 1-2-3 classes, and to see some of the top women tennis players in the world, on their way to the US OPEN, as they vie for the honor of winning the inaugural Apple & Eve Tennis Classic Cup.

The special fee of $60 includes five one-and-a-half-hour lessons at Syosset-Woodbury Park, as well as lunch at the Apple & Eve Tennis Classic tournament, and admission to the matches. Beginner classes will be held each day from 10 -11:30 a.m., intermediate lessons will follow from 11:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m.

Other special events scheduled to take place during the inaugural Apple & Eve Tennis Classic are as follows:

*July 1 and July 9: Ball boy and ball girl tryouts: 2-4 p.m. at Syosset-Woodbury Park. Children must be age 11 and above. Tennis experience preferred. If selected, ball boys and ball girls must be available July 14-21, from 9 am - 6 p.m. daily. To register, please call 631-642-8081.

* Monday, July 15 - Friday, July 19: USA 1-2-3 daily lessons for adults & teens - Open to all ages, 12 and above. Includes seven-and-a-half hours of instruction, lunch, and tickets to matches. Beginner class, 10 - 11:30 a.m. Intermediate class, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The fee is $60 per person. Register by July 8. Limited enrollment. Call 631-642-8081.

* Monday, July 15- Wednesday, July 17: USA team tennis youth challenge days - Open only to boys and girls taking part in Syosset-Woodbury summer recreation programs. 9:30 - 11 a.m. Sponsored by the Long Island Tennis & Sports Foundation.

*Thursday, July 18: Apple & Eve Kids Day, presented by Radio Disney (9 a.m. - 11 a.m.). Tennis free-for-all carnival for boys and girls ages 5-12. Featuring The Radio Disney Party Patrol. Open only to Syosset-Woodbury residents.

*Friday, July 19: American Airlines women's corporate clinic & networking luncheon: from 8 a.m.-10 a.m., Syosset-Woodbury Community Park. $25 per person includes continental breakfast, tennis clinic, luncheon, and tickets to quarterfinal matches. Call 631-642-8081 for tickets.

* Saturday, July 20: Apple & Eve Tennis Classic, presented by Pathmark, Semi-Final Competition. Singles and Doubles. Play begins at 10 a.m.

*Sunday, July 21: Apple & Eve Tennis Classic, presented by Pathmark, Finals Competition, Singles and Doubles. Award ceremony follows final matches. Play begins at 11 a.m. American Airlines Lucky Fan Contest.
