On July 28 and August 4, Josh Cohen, a resident of Jericho, will host his fifth Annual Long Island 3-on-3 Neighborhood Basketball Classic at the Merry Lane basketball courts in Jericho. On July 28, players ages 15-25 will compete from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. On August 4, players 25 and older will compete from 8 a.m. - noon. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation, a national organization that funds research and provides support for children with brain and spinal cord tumors and their families.
The event is in memory of Jill Adlman, the daughter of Bonnie and Fred Adlman, long-time Jericho residents. Jill passed away at 15 years old due to a brain tumor. Bonnie serves on the board of directors of CBTF and the Adlmans' have been actively involved in CBTF since it was founded in 1988. CBTF has awarded over $3.5 million for research into the causes of and improved treatments for childhood brain and spinal cord tumors. "Almost everything we've accomplished has been thanks to the generosity of individuals and Josh Cohen has a great knack for getting people involved," said Mrs. Adlman.
In the first four years of the event, $20,000 was raised for CBTF. Everyone who attended the competitive, fast moving and well-organized tournament had a great time. Participants will enjoy free refreshments and get a T-shirt and bottle of water. There will be trophies for the top teams and a large selection of prizes to be raffled off.
