Jericho resident Andrew Kenny is the new cover boy for the CD I Gotta Go! which is a potty training CD from the Chicago-based Vickilew Company.
Although 3-year-old Andrew and his brothers, 5-year-old Brian and 1-year-old Patrick, have done modeling before, this job didn't come through the usual advertising agency.
Being the parent of three young boys Deborah and Brian Kenny decided to hire a nanny during the summer to help with their children. They searched the Internet and found Leah Swanson, who had just graduated from Penn State with a degree in counselor education. Swanson wanted to spend the summer in the New York area.
"I knew I wanted to be near a city, but so there were many options," said Swanson, who is originally from Pittsburgh, PA. "I thought it was a great idea to be near New York. I saw a website where families listed what they are looking for. I wrote an e-mail to the Kenny family, we talked on the phone and I met them."
It was an immediate match according to Swanson and the Kenny family. Swanson spent last summer taking care of the boys. In September, she moved back to Pittsburgh to interview for some job openings. After September 11, her uncle asked her to come to Chicago where he was making a video for his classes at Northwestern University. "The video was being made for the relief efforts so I thought it was something that I could do," said Swanson. "So I moved to Chicago."
When she was there, she met Vickie Esralew, founder of the Vickilew Company, who produces non-violent happy children's music, videos and games for all developmental stages for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. This summer, the company went to work creating a fun tool to help families with potty training.
Esralew and her award-wining team of composers, lyricists and Hollywood-based production specialists wrote songs like I've Got the Power, I Gotta Go, Pull Down, Pull On and Washin' My Hands.
Swanson was very involved in the creative process and immediately thought of Andrew when they needed a cover boy for the CD. Andrew was just potty trained during the summer of 2001.
"He's adorable and really cute and he has the best attitude," said Swanson who remains close to the Kenny family.
Deborah Kenny sent Swanson many pictures once she expressed interest and once Swanson's co-workers saw the pictures of Andrew, they knew they had their cover boy. "Andrew didn't have to have a photo shoot," said Deborah. "The picture on the CD is one I had taken of him."
According to Dad Brian, Andrew doesn't really fully understand that he is a new cover boy. "He doesn't realize that his picture is going to be in stores nationwide," said Brian. "He's seen the cover and he comments 'oh, that's me' but he is more interested in playing than being a star."
The CD will be available in two weeks, but pre-orders are being taken on the website: www.vickilew.com. It will also be available at Babies R Us in about three weeks.
