The following is a compilation of local houses of worship that are planning special services to honor those who lost their lives by the tragic events of September 11, 2001:

The Bible Baptist Church, which is located at 178 Cold Spring Harbor Road in Syosset, will be holding a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Faith Evangelical Church will hold services in conjunction with North Shore Synagogue, which is located at 83 Muttontown Road in Syosset at 7:30 p.m.

The Jericho Jewish Center, which is located at 430 North Broadway in Jericho, will be holding services in conjunction with Jericho's Temple Or Elohim at the JJC at 7:45 p.m. The community is invited to attend the service that will be conducted by Rabbi Marvin Richardson and Rabbi Harvey Abramowitz with the participation of Cantor Israel Goldstein and Cantor Abbe Sher.

The faith community of St. Edward the Confessor, which is located at 205 Jackson Avenue in Syosset, invites everyone to an evening of music and prayer. At 7:30 p.m., those in attendance will gather for a memorial concert comprised of patriotic, meditative and religious selections. The Huntington's Men's Chorus will participate along with the St. Edward's Choir and many guest musicians. Anyone who would like to sing is welcome to join the choir, which will rehearse on Monday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the old church. Following the concert will be an interval of about 10 minutes followed by Mass and a candelight procession.

The Woodbury/Syosset Interfaith Clergy Group hosted by North Shore Synagogue invites the public to a Community Memorial Healing Service in remembrance of the attack on America, September 11, 2001. This will be held on Wednesday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m. at North Shore Synagogue, which is located at 83 Muttontown Road in Syosset.

Participating congregations include Community Church of Syosset, Faith Lutheran Church of Syosset, Holy Name of Jesus RCC, Woodbury, North Shore Synagogue, Syosset, St. Bede's Episcopal Church in Syosset, Woodbury Jewish Center and Woodbury United Methodist Church.

The Woodbury United Methodist Church will open on September 11 from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. for continual prayer. The church is located at 577 Woodbury Road in Woodbury. From 8:30 a.m. until noon there will be a special prayer vigil. If you have names of those you wish to be remembered and prayed for, please either bring them to the Prayer Vigil on Wednesday or call them into the church office at 692-7179 before noon on Tuesday. At noon there will be a special prayer service of remembrance for all members of the community.
