The Jericho Rockets defeated the Syosset Twisters 6 -1. It was a total team effort as both the offense and defense were solid.

The defense had some new faces, as two starters in the back were unable to play. Stepping up big time were Marissa Krauser and Reisa Feigenbaum. Both played excellent. One particular play stands out when the game was tied 1 -1. Syosset had a breakaway and Marissa came over from her weak side fullback position and made a very impressive tackle. Marissa stole a clear scoring opportunity from the Twisters.

Also playing exceptionally well on defense were Shelby Bates and Jordi Diamond. Jordi was playing injured and she showed her toughness and dedication to the team. Shelby exhibited her typical solid play all game.

In goal, Julie Avrutine made some beautiful saves during the first half. Sam Pearlstein made her debut in goal in the second half. She showed cat-like instincts and intuitively started a couple of counter attacks. Good job Sam.

The scoring started off with a beautiful pass from Nicole Kapner to Rachael Podblieak at midfield. Rachael then split the defense with a pass to Hillary Kesner. Hillary then shot and hit the back of the net. The entire play was good, sound fundamental soccer.

From there the dynamic duo of Alison Kinzer and Hillary Kesner were responsible for the next two goals. Alie scored both goals and Hilary assisted on both. One of the goals should have been on the replay of Channel 12 sports. Hillary made a sensational cross from the left wing and Alie simply redirected the shot past the keeper. Alie has done an excellent job in leading the offense beyond the scoring. She is constantly communicating on the field, hustling and exhibiting unselfish passing on all parts of the field.

Shana Feibus, Lauren Tiffen and Nicole Kapner contributed the remaining goals. Shana took a cross from the wing and trapped the ball, then shot it into the goal in one motion. Nicole Kapner had a rocket for a shot from the 18-yard line. Lauren's goal was also a beauty.

Not to be outdone the midfielders played an excellent game. Lindsay Hamburg, Rachael Podbeliak, Sam Pearlstein, Lauren Tiffen, Shana Feibus and Nicole Kapner all played a brilliant game.
