The boys' fifth-grade baseball travel team, the Jericho Jay Sox beat the K-Nines from Huntington, 12-4, to even their season record at 5 and 5. The highlight of the day was a massive 220 foot 2-run homerun to the deepest part of Merry Lane off the bat of Jay Sox slugger, Brandon "Big Mac" First. First, who went 1 for 3 on the day, put the game out of reach with his 2 run moon shot in the fourth inning.
Jeffrey "Ozzie" Goren, started the Jay Sox off on the right foot with a single in the top of the first. Goren, the Sox slick fielding shortstop, promptly stole 2nd. After an out, he came around to score on a double by Jeremy "Hit Away" Feinstein. Feinstein, who has been smoking the ball all year, advanced to second on a walk to First, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on another wild pitch. Matt "Mr. Softee" Newman walked, and after a strikeout, Charlie "Pesky" Fasano also walked to load the bases. Max "Mr. Yankee" Resnick, then came up with a clutch 2 out double to plate 2 more runs. The last of the Sox 5 first inning runs came across on Fasano's steal of home.
The Sox added another run in the second. After a lead-off out, Goren smoked a single to centerfield. He advanced to second on a wild pitch, and he came around to score on a sharp single by Feinstein. The K-Nines broke through for a single run in the bottom of the second off Jordan "JZ" Zinger. Zinger, despite not getting much help behind him defensively, pitched a strong game in going the distance. Zinger gave up 4 runs on 5 hits, 5 walks and 2 strikeouts for the win.
The Sox added 2 more runs in the third on hits by Zinger(2 for 4), Resnick (2 for 2 with a walk), and Goren (3 for 3 with a walk). The Sox scored three times in the fourth paced by a walk to Josh "Goose" Varghese and the First round tripper. The Sox finished out the scoring in the sixth on a Newman double and 2 errors.
The Sox travel to Kings Park on Sunday for their last doubleheader of the spring, and they have to make up two games at Merry Lane against the 3-Village Yankees.
