During the summer of 2001, residents in the East Birchwood section of Jericho were hit with a string of burglaries that continued sporadically since then. The burglaries alarmed local residents as they were fearful to leave their homes empty and unattended.

According to Sergeant Colasonno from the 2nd precinct, there was an arrest made in the vicinity where they were experiencing other burglaries. There were plain-clothes and uniformed police officers patrolling the area when they spotted a car in the back streets of East Birchwood.

"The suspicious car was seen on Southwoods Road in Woodbury," said Sergeant Colasonno. "There were some other burglaries there in the past. They were stopped and, after a foot pursuit, they were arrested. They were dressed in black garb."

Sergeant Colasonno said that the suspect didn't admit to the burglaries in East Birchwood, but he fit the profile. "In reality, we didn't close any cases there because he didn't admit to these things," said Sergeant Colasonno. "The conditions that were appearing are gone. We were lucky to catch this individual. It was very good police work by the police officers involved."
