  • News: Jericho Middle School Students Remember and Honor the Heroes of 9/11

    Students, staff, and members of the community gathered together on Thursday afternoon, September 11 to plant a tree in remembrance of the heroes of 9/11. "Today we honor the heroes who made a difference in other people's lives two years ago today, a day that will stand out in our minds forever," explained student Jonathan Varghese at the opening of the ceremony. "As Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said, 'the terrorists wanted September 11th to be a day when innocents died. Instead it was a day when heroes were born.'" The community service learning class of the Jericho Middle School prepared and organized this solemn and thoughtful event under the guidance of faculty advisors Jill Grossman, Maria Panayiotou and Spiridoula Nikolopoulos.   • Sports: Syosset High School Roller Hockey Club Announces Tryouts and Adds Junior Varsity Team

    The Syosset High School Roller Hockey Club will be holding tryouts for the 2003-2004 season on September 21 at 1 p.m. at Skatesafe of America in Old Bethpage. All students living in the Syosset school district, in grades 7 through 12, whether they attend a Syosset school or a private school are able to try out. This is the first year that Syosset will be selecting a junior varsity team. Varsity Coach David Mosenson is really excited about adding the Junior Varsity team because it will enable Syosset to build for the future and hopefully continue their winning tradition. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Green Scores in Memorial Run

    Congratulations to Woodbury Speedster Larry Green, who scored as the 84th runner overall and eighth out of 50 runners in the 50-54 age group in the prestigious Elizabeth T. McNamee Memorial 5-Kilometer Run held on the roads of West Islip. Green covered the 301 mile course in 20 minutes, 42 seconds, a pace of 6:41 minutes per mile. FULL STORY
