Local residents were hit with yet another snowstorm during this brutal winter. As soon as the snow started falling, trucks were out across Long Island to sand, salt and plow the icy roads.
Residents woke up on Wednesday morning to find more than 11 inches of snow in parts of Nassau County. This snowstorm was nothing that residents hadn't seen before. With 25 inches of snow, last month was the snowiest December on record at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Residents did have to deal with icy road conditions and were warned to stay home if at all possible, but drive cautiously if it was necessary to be on the roads. A stretch of Round Swamp Road in Plainview was closed Tuesday evening due to icy conditions, as were many other roadways in Nassau County.
Many Town of Oyster Bay activities, including activities at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Center, were canceled this past week due to inclement weather. Please call the community center at 677-5992 for information on cancellations.
Local schools, including Syosset and Jericho were closed on Thursday due to unsafe conditions. Local high schools had mid-term exams scheduled on Wednesday and will now need to make up those tests.
The Syosset Central School District's high school Wednesday test schedule will be followed on Monday, Feb. 2 and regular classes will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
