Call for Volunteers for the Commerce Bank Long Island Classic
The Commerce Bank Long Island Classic, a Champions Tour golf tournament, is looking for volunteers for many jobs during tournament week. The annual event, now in its 18th year, will be held on an early date, June 28-July 4 and will be played at the Red Course at Eisenhower in East Meadow. Defending Champion Jim Thorpe will compete in a full field of Champions Tour professionals for a $1.5 million purse.

Local Students on All-Star Hockey Team
Nassau High School All Stars, Jericho High School senior Chris Funfgeld and Louis Judge, a senior at Syosset High School, were members of the Nassau County high school hockey all-star team that defeated Suffolk County, 7-5, in the 8th Annual Vytra Cup, played recently in Nassau Coliseum in front of 3,500 fans. Nassau jumped out to a 7-0 lead before holding on to avenge last year's 3-2 loss to Suffolk. Sponsored by Vytra Health Plans, Newsday and the New York Islanders, the all-star showdown is a charity event, with this year's proceeds benefiting All Island Handicapped Sports, a non-profit organization that runs programs for physically challenged children, and the New York Islanders Children's Foundation.
