The Mark J. Friedman Foundation and The Friends of Fred H. Hantman recently announced the first annual Hoops for Lymphoma 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at Jericho High School, Sunday May 16.
This Tournament is in memory of Mark J. Friedman and Fred H. Hantman, two local residents who shared a love of family, friends and basketball. Both, unfortunately, passed away in 1999 from this disease. All donations from this event will go to the American Cancer Society for Lymphoma research in their names.
Each team entering the Tournament will be in a division determined by age and basketball experience. The Tournament is open to players of all ages and genders. A double elimination system will be in place to determine the winners in each of the respective divisions. The tournament begins at 10 a.m., and each team will play 2 or more games. The Tournament will take requests regarding time restrictions. All games will be completed by 4 p.m.
Also, the day will be filled with numerous other fun-filled activities such as a 3-point shot contest, a free throw shooting contest, and a half court shot contest. Prizes will be awarded to the winners. The day will also feature raffles for great prizes.
The Tournament still has a few available spots remaining for program sponsors. There are available sponsorships for Courts ($500 donation), Backboard ($300 donation), and Net and Rim ($200 donation). There are also spots open for advertising sponsors.
The entry fee is $150 per team. The teams will consist of 3 or 4 players. Applications are due by May 1. Applications and information regarding program and advertising sponsorships can be obtained by contacting Bruce Friedman at 937-3408 or via email at DRBLF@aol.com All checks should be made payable to The American Cancer Society or The Mark J. Friedman Foundation. Checks should be sent to Hoops for Lymphoma, 430 S. Marginal Road, Jericho, NY 11753.
