Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto and Councilman Chris J. Coschignano recently announced that the Syosset Hamlet Plan Committee, in cooperation with the Town, will disclose the results of recently mailed resident and business surveys at special visioning workshops to be held at the Southwoods Middle School, 99 Pell Lane, Syosset on Wednesday, June 2, and Monday, June 7, at 7 p.m. The surveys were mailed to gather public opinion on the needs of the downtown Syosset community, which will, in turn, help develop and shape a plan to improve the area.
"The results are very interesting and reflect the thoughts of people who care so much about this community," Venditto said. "I truly think that many of the suggestions are tangible and will help the committee and planners in establishing a plan for the revitalization and redevelopment of downtown Syosset."
Hofstra University's Scott Skodnek Business Development Center compiled the surveys. The planning firm of Nelson, Pope & Voorhis, LLC then evaluated the results. They will also evaluate the participation at the visioning workshops. Supervisor Venditto, Councilman Coshignano, town personnel, and Nelson, Pope & Voorhis, LLC will be on hand to share the survey results and open a dialogue about the results.
"The workshops are also a great opportunity for anyone who did not fill out a survey to still participate in the process," Supervisor Venditto said. "The feedback at the workshops will be evaluated as another way to obtain a thorough perspective of issues pertaining to the area. Even after the workshops, there will be a lot of discussion among the committee and the town to continue to identify needs and methods for implementation, but let's not overlook that the town will benefit tremendously from the dialogue at the workshops."
Councilman Coschignano said it is incumbent upon the Syosset community to attend the workshops. "These workshops are critical to making sure that we truly understand the comments made on the surveys. The dialogue generated is fundamental to the plan to enhance our community and make it stronger. After the workshops, if anyone has any additional concerns, they can call my office at 624-6303."
