Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) recently announced that members of the Rules Committee approved a permanent easement agreement with the Long Island Rail Road that would permit the county to construct a traffic island at Jackson Avenue and Underhill Blvd. The property is partially in the LIRR's right of way.
"It's not news to anyone who uses this intersection that there are major safety issues," said Jacobs. "The planned construction of a safety island in the middle and improvements to the traffic signals, will greatly improve matters. It is good news that the LIRR and the county were able to reach an agreement allowing the construction of the island on LIRR property."
In addition, this week, Rules Committee members also approved the renewal of an expired bond ordinance for $1.2 million for the continued design and construction of road improvements to Woodbury Road-Syosset-Woodbury Road intersection.
"I am pleased to see this important project move forward," said Legislator Jacobs. "While we have experienced some delay, I believe that the obstacles to the project have been cleared."
Both the LIRR easement measure and the renewal of the bond ordinance still have to pass through the full legislature at the June 28 session. Both are expected to pass.
