As the students of the Syosset School District savor the final days of summer, the administration, faculty, and staff are readying the classrooms, the schedules, and themselves to begin school on September 7.

Interviewing and hiring have been held throughout the summer and just about all schools will welcome one or more new faculty members, with Syosset High School getting the most new teachers in the District.

"We're all looking forward to the start of a new year and the continuation of our District's excellent academic and co-curricular programs for all our students," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carole G. Hankin, who will be marking 15 years of service in her position this year. "We have seen a great deal of growth in the depth and scope of all our programs over these past 15 years, and the success of our students is a great testimony to the quality of the education they are receiving."

"Each year, I hold a special meeting with students that I call the Superintendent's Student Cabinet," said Dr. Hankin. "I invite students from each of our 10 schools to meet with me and discuss how they feel about their schools, their teachers, and the opportunities they have to pursue their interests. It is deeply gratifying to hear so consistently that they feel safe, cared for, and respected by their teachers and that they genuinely enjoy their school days. It is their satisfaction with school that ensures a positive learning environment for all students, and our district's educators work very diligently to provide the support and leadership they need to succeed and be happy."

Syosset teachers will be meeting together on September 2 prior to the start of school for students, but even now, teachers can be seen checking on their classrooms in anticipation of the new term.

"We are all looking forward to welcoming the students back in September and we hope they are enjoying their summer vacation," said Dr. Hankin.
