July Fourth weekend, the Syosset Baseball Association's 9-year-old division entered into a Summer Travel Tournament, hosted by Plainview Little League.
There were 12 teams fielded throughout Nassau County including host team Plainview. All games were played during the seven-day stretch at Plainview's fields, with the main fields at the Plainview Community Park pool site off Washington Avenue.
Syosset's team, managed by Dennis Kehne, completed the games prior to the playoff rounds, going undefeated with a 3-0 winning mark and placing first in the seeding. To get there they defeated host team and favorite, Plainview.
That set up the opening round game between Syosset and wild-card Plainview. Plainview defeated Syosset in this game, going on to win the championship. Syosset moved on to the consolation game facing Freeport.
Syosset won, placing third in the tournament with all players receiving bronze medals for their efforts.
Syosset was led by the pitching of Jason Steinberg, Kevin Kehne, Shane Mandel and Zach Greenspan. Solid fielding from John Diaz, Michael Bueti and Chris Vradis as well as timely hits throughout the tourney by Troy Scocca, Kevin Kehne, Joe Morris, Aaron Schuster, James Schlesinger and Tim Burke provided for a balanced attack leading to the team's bronze medal.
