On Oct. 24, the Jericho Jay Sox took the field at the Jackson Elementary School, needing to sweep a doubleheader against the Long Island Astros, to become the champions of the NJBL 12-year-old-75 Foot Base Division. The Sox, behind great pitching and an all out offensive assault, took both games, 6-2 and 14-3, to earn the crown.
Jeffrey Goren (2-3 with 2 runs scored) got the Sox off on the right foot when he lined a single into the gap in the top of the first. Following a walk to Derek Hakim(1-2 with 2 runs scored), Goren came around to score on a sharp single by Jeremy Feinstein. In the bottom of the first, after a leadoff walk, Goren (complete game 2 hit 5K gem), settled down and struck out 2 of the last 3 batters in the inning. The Sox had a bit of bad luck in their half of the second inning when Michael Tuccillo hit a ball to the fence, but was thrown out at the plate after falling rounding third base. While the Sox did not score, the European Judge awarded Mike a 9.9 for style. The Sox put the game away with 4 in the third frame. Nicholas Tuccillo, Goren, Hakim and Feinstein started the inning with 4 consecutive hits, and all 4 runners scored. Max Resnick also drove in a run in the inning with a clutch 2 out single. The Sox were aided by 2 perfectly executed squeeze bunts by Matthew Newman. Meanwhile, the Sox played excellent defense behind Goren all day. Derek Hakim turned in 2 great plays in the 5th. First, he ranged up the middle, made a diving stab of a hard hit smash, and fired from his knees to 1st base, where Resnick deftly scooped the throw to just nail the runner. Hakim flashed the leather again when he ventured into the hole at short, backhanded the ball, and nailed the runner with a strong throw. Solid contributions were made by Charlie Fasano, Matt Newman, and Jesse Aronica.
In the second game, Goren again got the Sox rolling with a lead off single. Hakim (2-4) sacrificed Goren to 2nd, and Goren came around to score on a single by Feinstein (2-4). Brandon First (3-4 2 runs scored) singled, and he came around to score on a single by Newman (3-3 walk 2 runs scored). Newman then followed with a single, before Resnick drove in a few more with another single. Hakim (complete game 7 hit 3k) gave up single runs in the first and second. He was aided in the first by Feinstein. Playing centerfield, Feinstein fielded a fly ball with one out and a runner on third. He fired to the plate as the runner tagged. Hakim cut the throw and fired a perfect strike to Newman who slammed down the tagged, and nailed the runner at the plate. It was never close after that, as the Sox exploded for 5 more in the 4th, and 6 more runs in the 6th. Solid contributions were made by all. Tommy Caruso had solid at bats all day. Phil Fitzpatrick and Jason Fellows, played stellar defense in the clinching victory.

The offensive assault was led by Feinstein, First, Newman and Goren. The Sox received fantastic pitching, giving up an average of 3.85 runs per game.
