Jessica Fields, a senior at Jericho High School, was recently named the New England Regional Winner in the Siemens-Westinghouse Science Competition along with teammate Taylor Bernheim from The Ramaz Upper School in New York City. The team submitted a project entitled "From Micro- to Nano- Patterning: Organizing the Extracellular Matrix and Directing Cell Adhesion."
The Siemens Foundation, in partnership with the College Board, established the Siemens-Westinghouse Competition in 1999. The competition encourages students to undertake authentic scientific research in science, mathematics, engineering and technology, or any combinations of these disciplines. Siemens-Westinghouse is considered one of the leading science and mathematics research-based competitions for high school students in the nation because of high academic standards and a rigorous judging process.
The Siemens-Westinghouse Competition is one of the three major national science contests to which Jericho High School students in the Independent Research program submit projects.
