The Syosset Xtreme finished a great fall season in the Wesco ASA League on a heavenly gift of a warm fall day on November 7. The SYAC U12 travel squad dropped a thrilling 5-3 game to Three Villages, a worthy rival throughout the season, in the playoffs semi-finals.

The Xtreme jumped to a one-run lead in the second inning with a hard shot down the third base line off the powerful bat of Malory Sanchez, who motored around the bases for a home run. After Three Villages tied it up in the bottom of the frame, Lily Mummert stroked a run-scoring triple and then scampered home to put the Xtreme up 3-1 after three. Great catches in the outfield by Andrea Zalin and Erica Buki squelched potential Three Villages rallies, while pitcher Lily Mummert held them hitless for more than three innings. Melissa Kaufman caught a fine game behind the plate and nailed one opposition runner with a throw-out at second base. However, Three Villages pushed across a run to close it to 3-2 Syosset after five.

Villages then broke out for three runs in the fateful sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead late in the game. Syosset mounted a challenge in the top of the seventh, with clutch hits by Dana Singer and Melissa Kaufman. But with the tying runs on base Three Villages put away the third out and headed to the finals.

Syosset played one of its finest defensive games of the season. There was solid fielding in the infield from Jennifer Zink, Erica Buki, Julie Gold and Shelby Rosen. Dana Singer played a flawless game at first base and ranged far back and over her head to haul in a tough pop-up. Jen Zink rapped out a pair of hits and finished the season with a team-leading .519 batting average.
