In April, New York State Superintendent of Insurance Gregory Serio and Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon announced the arrest of Richard Meinhardt, commissioner of the Syosset Fire District, for allegedly submitting falsified documents in an attempt to obtain Firefighters Workers' Compensation benefits. The Syosset Chamber of Commerce held their annual Holiday Lighting Festival on Sunday, Dec. 5 in downtown Syosset. This year, the weather cooperated after the festivities were canceled last year due to a severe snowstorm that hit the area. With over 700 children participating, from first grade through 10th grade, and with 10 travel teams competing throughout Long Island, basketball is definitely a favorite sport for the kids in our community.
