March madness came early for the Syosset Basketball League (SBL). On March 14, the third and fourth grade girls basketball championship was held at the Walt Whitman School. The gymnasium was packed to standing room only. The Sparks, coached by Paul Smolevitz, jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against the Fever, but the Fever ran off the next ten points and never looked back. The Fever won 25-12.

Playing strong, relentless defense with a well-balanced offense, the Fever team was led by captain Ashley Freedman with eight points, MVP Madison Littman with eight points and Kayla DiMatos with six points. The balance of the Fever team also contributed with their points and hustle defense - Julie Margolis, Kyle Shouldice, Haley Weinberger, Pamela Needle, Skylar Halpern and Stacey Denbaum. The Fever was well coached by Mitch Margolis, who taught the players to play as a team. After the game there was a trophy ceremony whereby Mitch spoke about each player and awarded their trophies.
