"And now for a bit of fantasy."
It seems to me that just honking and red signal lights are an inadequate form of communication between drivers on the highways and by-ways of America.
With modern technology many other methods can be called upon to let the driver in the next car know that his gas cap is open or that a door is ajar. We cannot take the operator of a vehicle away from his or her main job of safely steering the car. That is a given. But we can increase communication in subtle ways.
Computers now have the ability to let someone speak into a microphone and have it transposed into a written English text on paper or on a screen.
"You are drifting into my lane" is another message that can be transmitted to the car next to yours.
"One of your headlights is broken" is another.
"Please do not tailgate. It is dangerous," says a lot. Hopefully, this will not cause antagonism but there are no guarantees.
"Your rear left tire is flat."
"Slow down please, you are way over the speed limit."
These are only a few of the messages that can be placed on a screen just above the license plate. A spoken word in a short, terse sentence may help both drivers, the one speaking and the one viewing the words on a screen.
Naturally, certain precautions would have to be taken. Too much communication can result in uncivil speech, otherwise known as "road rage." Cursing would also be a "no, no" and incur a heavy fine.
By and large today's drivers are courteous and law abiding. This technology would only increase the knowledge and communication between the driving public in the USA.
I realize that this idea is futuristic but so was a "walk on the moon" by Neil Armstrong. I am opening myself up for both criticism and/or ideas from my reading public.
Thank you in advance.
