A wonderful season of SYAC Girls Softball concluded on June 22 with a thrilling extra-inning win by the Syosset Storm that captured the championship in the SYAC Junior Division.

A towering shot to deep left field by Storm slugger Hannah Pohalski scored Danielle Kellner all the way from first base for a 5-4 win over the Syosset Sluggers before an excited crowd at Syosset-Woodbury Park. Pohalski's hit, a triple, came in the bottom of the seventh inning. It proved to be a walk-off winner after the two excellent teams had been knotted at 4-4 for most of the game. Nicole Guttenberg pitched an excellent game for the Storm.

The Syosset Sluggers played outstanding defense throughout the game, which followed a 6-5 season topped by three wins in the playoffs. The Syosset Storm rolled to a 10-1 record in the regular season and had three playoff wins.

More than 600 girls from Syosset, Woodbury and Jericho participated on more than 40 teams in SYAC Softball this spring. In the fall, SYAC will sponsor girls travel softball teams at several age levels. Tryouts will be held in late August on dates posted earlier that month.
