The fall season is underway for three SYAC Girls Softball travel teams.

The Syosset Flames, the U10 A travel team, claimed victory in both ends of a doubleheader on Sept. 11, with 10-4 and 12-11 wins over Smithtown/St. James Bombers Blue. Sharing pitching duties for Syosset were Connor Bird, Ashley Freedman, Elizabeth Jacobsohn, Madison Litman and Logan Mitchell. Lauren Maturo provided offensive power with a triple and a home run. Hannah Pohalski made an outstanding hard smash to the outfield to save several runs.

Taking the field this weekend with their first game is the Syosset Fire, the U10 B travel team.

Also playing Sept. 11 was the Syosset Xtreme, the SYAC U12 travel team. The Xtreme fell to the Islip Red Devils by scores of 10-2 and 16-1. The Xtreme jumped to an early lead in the first game with aggressive base running by Dominique Compito, who scored both runs. Malory Sanchez smacked a double in the second game, while Andrea Zalin, Kristen Carton and Dana Singer contributed hits. Dana Fried and Jennifer Zink were sparkling at third and shortstop, respectively, and Yassamin Issapour was rock solid behind the plate. Olivia Faden made a start on the pitching mound for the Xtreme and went five strong innings.

The SYAC travel program continues to expand, and skills clinics and scrimmages are planned in upcoming weeks. For more info: www.syacgs.org.
