In the middle of the rainiest autumn on record, the sun broke out and shined over SYAC Travel Softball teams, as three sets of doubleheaders were played on Sunday, October 23.

The Xtreme, the U-12 SYAC travel team, dropped a pair of close games to the Three Villages Bombers. The first game was a pitcher's duel, knotted 2-2 at the end of six innings. In an extra inning, the Bombers pushed across a winning run.

In the second game, the Xtreme threatened in the bottom of the sixth, as Dana Aronowitz scored. The game ended on a dramatic note, on a hard-hit two-out single by Melissa Wong. Dominique Compito raced home from third. The ball was knocked free, but the catcher recovered in a scramble and tagged her out to end the thriller of a game.

The Xtreme got outstanding pitching from Jen Zink and Riana Stadlen, as well as fine catching from Dominique Compito. The Xtreme was near flawless defensively, making bang bang plays in the infield and hauling in every fly ball hit to the outfield.

In the U-10 division, both teams faced league leaders and came up short. At Syosset-Woodbury Park, the Fire took on the mighty SYAG Blaze, which fields a tournament-tough team. The Flames, playing at Plainview High School, lost well-played games 10-6 and 11-5 to the Plainview Pythons, who top the league. The Flames hit well against blazing pitching. The Flames found good pitching and catching combos in Ashley Freedman, Hannah Pohalski, Aly Girardi and Madison Littman.
