The Syosset School District Board of Education has received and approved the report of the external audit conducted by the firm of D'Arcangelo & Co. for the 2004-2005 fiscal year.
The external auditor examined all areas of the district's financial records, including purchasing, payroll, retirement costs, revenues from state aid, local taxes and other sources, capital improvements, debt service expenditures, and more. The auditor is given full access to all of these and other financial records. Based on their findings, the auditor stated that Syosset is in a solid financial position. Internal controls were also thoroughly evaluated and tested. The auditor declared the district to have very strong financial controls in place, including those that are built into the financial software used by the district.
The auditor reviewed the previous report of the state auditors and was impressed with the proactive measures the district has taken to comply with any suggestions made by the state. The external auditor praised Syosset for the thoroughness and accuracy of its records.
"The Board of Education and Syosset Administration work together to ensure that the financial management for which we have responsibility is conducted in the most scrupulous manner. We follow professional standards and legal mandates to the precise letter and are pleased that our auditors have given our efforts such a positive report," said Dr. Hankin.
