The Homicide Squad recently reported the details of a fatal auto accident that occurred in Woodbury early Sunday morning, April 9.
Police state that at approximately 4:50 a.m., Huguens C. Souhaite , a 39-year-old resident of Queens Village, was operating a 2002 BMW sedan northbound on Woodbury Road in Woodbury, with two other male passengers. At Verna Way, Souhaite lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadbed, struck a tree and a utility pole. The vehicle continued, struck a second tree and rolled over onto its roof, coming to rest in the northbound lanes of Woodbury Road.
The backseat passenger, Mark Lainben, 37, of Queens Village, and Souhaite were taken by ambulance to the Nassau University Medical Center. Lainben was treated for minor injuries and released. Souhaite was admitted for observation. The front seat passenger, Francois Desravines, a 47-year-old resident of Huntington, was transported by ambulance to North Shore Hospital in Syosset where he was pronounced dead from multiple trauma by hospital staff a short time later.
The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety inspections. Souhaite has been arrested and is charged with one count of Driving While Intoxicated - arraignment pending.
