It was "Flames vs. Flames" as the Syosset Flames, the U10/12 SYAC Travel Softball team, played a doubleheader against the Commack Flames at Syosset Woodbury Community Park on a sunny morning on April 9.

Powered by key hits by Starr Strassman and Jamie Warfield, the Syosset Flames put up a bunch of runs in the first game. Syosset pitcher Ashley Freedman delivered a fine performance that kept the game close, but the Syosset squad fell 13-10 in the end. In the second game, Emily Rosen of Syosset got things going early with a 2-RBI hit that put the home team on the board. The game was marked by fine defensive plays by Liz Jacobsohn, Emily Rosen, Haley Leviashvili, Madison Litman and Sarah Rauchenberger. Nivia Suresh turned in a fine pitching performance for Syosset, and Ashley Freedman returned to the mound to get the save for Syosset.

In their home opener on April 2, the Syosset Flames won a pair from the Jericho Jayhawks. In the first game, Jericho started strong by taking an early 3-1 lead. Syosset then regrouped and came back to capture a 4-3 lead with RBIs from both Jamie Warfield and Starr Strassman. Jericho produced the game-tying run in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth and final inning Syosset had two on base when Liz Jacobsohn ripped a hard shot to the right center gap that scored Logan Mitchell with the winning run. Given the choice, Liz preferred the game winning single over what would have surely been a home run.

In the second game of the double header, Syosset scored first and often, putting up 9 runs in the first three innings. With Syosset's Nivia Suresh pitching well in her debut performance, Jericho would not quit. With a 5-run fourth inning, the Jayhawks put pressure back on the Flames. The Flames pushed a run across in the top of the sixth, and Jericho scored one in the bottom for a final score of 10-6 Syosset. The Syosset offense was powered by Liz Jacobsohn's home run. Sarah Rauchenburger, Alivia Lang and Emily Rosen each had 2 RBIs in the game.
